\nI have been looking for a homeschool\u00a0planner that fits the needs of our family and I had the opportunity to review My School Year (Homeschool Record Keeping)<\/a>\u00a0by MySchoolYear.com<\/a>.\u00a0 I received an annual membership to the online planner.<\/p>\n

MySchoolYear.com\u00a0is an on-line planner for homeschool families that\u00a0keeps track everyone’s schedule and\u00a0homeschool information.\u00a0 The planner can be accessed from anywhere there is an internet connection and an annual subscription is $40 per year.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"MySchoolYear.com2\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Setting up a\u00a0New Term\u00a0is simple.\u00a0 As you can see in the picture above when setting up the New Term\u00a0once the start and end dates are\u00a0set, school days and days off are scheduled it will calculate all of\u00a0the information.\u00a0 I will know how\u00a0long the term is (One calendar year for us since we homeschool year round.), how many school days in the term are available, how many scheduled days off we will have, and how many actual school days we have on the schedule.\u00a0 I would like to point out that I have not\u00a0yet marked some of our days off that we have taken and I have not scheduled some of our days off for the fall.\u00a0 The number of official school days will be closer to 180 – 200, when everything is said and done.<\/p>\n

Homeroom<\/strong><\/p>\n

Homeroom gives me an overview for\u00a0each of my children.\u00a0 In Homeroom, I can select the term and view all of the information for the term for one of my children.\u00a0 The information includes classes, attendance, events, awards, readings, extra curricular, and tests.<\/p>\n

Planbook<\/strong><\/p>\n

The\u00a0planbook is the overview of all of the scheduled items.\u00a0 A feature that I love and is\u00a0a great asset is the search button!\u00a0 I have not come across this type of search in any other on-line planners that I have tried.\u00a0\u00a0Searching my planbook\u00a0allows me to search by my choice of dates and then I can filter out the results after that.\u00a0 I can filter by student, subject, and date, including filtering assignments that are overdue, due today, are upcoming and have no date.\u00a0 I wish I could filter multiple items in\u00a0each category.\u00a0 For instance I can search assignments for all of the girls or one individually but I cannot filter the search for two of the three.\u00a0 The same thing with the other categories you can either search one or all.\u00a0 Another thing that I cannot do is print from my planbook.<\/p>\n

Reports<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"MySchoolYear.com3\"<\/a><\/p>\n

There are lots of reports that\u00a0are available to be\u00a0created!\u00a0 While we won’t be using every report option, it is nice that it is available if we need it.\u00a0 This is where the copy of\u00a0 the planbook can be printed!\u00a0Create a report for the\u00a0Lesson Plan\u00a0and it creates a PDF report, which you can print and save.<\/p>\n

Teacher’s Aids<\/strong><\/p>\n

I really like the Teacher’s Aids!\u00a0 It\u00a0provides reminders to add lesson plans and asks questions such as did my child earn any awards, attend any events, and what their reading list was so I can fill in the information, if I choose.<\/p>\n

I am given the choice to fix the notice or to delete the notice.\u00a0 If I choose to fix the notice,\u00a0it will take me directly to the page so I can make any changes.\u00a0 Once I am through with the\u00a0notice I can delete it.\u00a0 There are two options for deleting the notices.\u00a0 By default it is set on safe delete where I will receive a confirmation before deleting the notice.\u00a0 Then there is an option for the notice to be deleted without a confirmation.<\/p>\n

Tools<\/strong><\/p>\n

MySchoolYear.com makes it easy when needing to copy the same assignment for multiple children.\u00a0 This is a must for our family since multiple children are working on the same schoolwork together.\u00a0 There is also an option to share assignments between MySchoolYear.com users!\u00a0 I have not used the share feature between MySchoolYear.com users but this is a great option to have available!<\/p>\n

Create-A-Plan is the place for batch planning.\u00a0 I was able easily set up multiple lessons in less than a minute.\u00a0 MySchoolYear.com gave me the option of rapid repeating the item (ie: chores, practices, and\u00a0lessons) or using quick split and allow their software to split it up for me.\u00a0 The quick split is great for dividing up book pages!<\/p>\n

I can also reschedule lessons\u00a0which is another very important and needed feature.\u00a0 Sometimes something comes up at the spur of the moment (ie: funeral, doctor’s appointment, etc.) and the reschedule feature helps readjust the schedule smoothly.\u00a0 I can choose to move the date ahead by however many days I need to adjust the schedule and there is a choice for adjusting all of the subjects together or one individual subject.<\/p>\n

\"MySchoolYear.com4\"<\/a>\"MySchoolYear.com5\"<\/a><\/p>\n

There are two options for tracking attendance.\u00a0 MySchoolYear.com can automatically track my attendance or I can manually enter all of the information.<\/p>\n

Setup<\/strong><\/p>\n

Setup is where\u00a0all of the details such as grading, materials, students, schools are set up.\u00a0 I can set up the grading scale that I want to use and change the value of the grade, including the minimum grade required for a Pass\/Fail class.\u00a0 All of our\u00a0resources and curriculum that we own can be found\u00a0in one easy spot.<\/p>\n

I believe that I have found our planner!\u00a0 We don’t use every feature but what we do use right now serves our needs.\u00a0\u00a0As our children\u00a0get older I anticipate on using\u00a0the other features to become\u00a0beneficial.\u00a0 I encourage any homeschool families looking for a planner to check out My School Year (Homeschool Record Keeping)<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0There is a small learning curve at first due to no FAQ page to answer questions such as, “How do I print my Planbook?” or “How can I reschedule my classes?”\u00a0 There is a ‘Need Help?’ button that gives a brief description of what is on the page.\u00a0 Other than that it is very homeschool friendly!<\/p>\n

UPDATE 7\/16\/2016:<\/strong><\/p>\n

A week and a half\u00a0after\u00a0I published this review,\u00a0I received an email from MySchoolYear.com saying\u00a0that as a result of the review they began working on video tutorials and already released their first one, Site Introduction.\u00a0\u00a0I had not gotten a chance to watch the\u00a0tutorial until tonight, 7\/16\/2016.\u00a0 It is well done and walks through the different pages with a brief description.\u00a0 Since then they have added 6 additional video tutorials, a FAQ page\u00a0with answers to 8 questions, and a guide.\u00a0 The guide is a downloadable advanced technique cheat sheet for Create-A-Plan with instructions on how to generate complex lesson plan patterns.\u00a0 Thank you MySchoolYear.com for quickly adding these things!<\/p>\n
