Are you looking to teach your young children Latin?\u00a0 I had the pleasure of reviewing Olim, Once upon a Time in Latin, Reader I<\/a> and\u00a0Workbook I<\/a>\u00a0from Laurelwood Books<\/a>!<\/p>\n

\"Latin<\/a><\/p>\n

\"Latin<\/a>
\nOlim, Once upon a Time in Latin, Reader I<\/a> and\u00a0Workbook I<\/a>\u00a0are the first reader and workbook in a series of\u00a0six.\u00a0 The combination reader and workbook that my family received are designed for grades 2 through 5 and no prior knowledge of Latin is needed to be go through this book and workbook.\u00a0 I thought it was a great\u00a0time to introduce Sweet Pea to the Latin language.<\/p>\n

In the\u00a0Olim, Once upon a Time in Latin, Reader I, the reader begins with an explanation of how to use the reader, Latin pronunciation, Roman Numeral reference sheet, and three stories writing in both English and Latin.\u00a0 It is suggested to read through the Latin version multiple times to aid in the retention of the words.<\/p>\n

There are three stories in the\u00a0Olim, Once upon a Time in Latin, Reader I.\u00a0 The three stories are The Three Little Pigs, The Tortoise and the Hare, & The Crow and the Pitcher.\u00a0 As mentioned above all of the stories are written in both English and Latin.\u00a0 Every story includes 1-2\u00a0drawings corresponding to the story on every page.\u00a0 There are corresponding workbook pages for every Latin page in the reader and are listed at the bottom of every page.\u00a0 Every Latin page has a vocabulary list in the margin with vocabulary words in both\u00a0Latin and\u00a0English.\u00a0 I find having this list very helpful.\u00a0 They also identify all of the adjectives and direct objects in every Latin\u00a0story (the key is located under the vocabulary list on the pages).<\/p>\n

\nThe Olim, Once upon a Time in Latin,\u00a0Workbook I is consumable and contains both the student pages and the lesson.\u00a0\u00a0Some of the\u00a0activities in the workbook include translating the words from English to Latin and from Latin to English, fill in the blank with additional translation, and matching English and Latin words to each other.\u00a0 There is an answer key for all of the workbook pages located in the back of the Olim, Once upon a Time in Latin,\u00a0Workbook I.<\/p>\n

Overall, this is a nice program and I think it is great program to introduce to Latin language.\u00a0 The lessons are a perfect length!\u00a0 We were able to easily\u00a0fit the lessons into our\u00a0schedule without having to move anything around.\u00a0 Sweet Pea told me that\u00a0she wish there were games or hands on activities to go along with the workbook activities.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0While I didn’t add any games or hands-on activities,\u00a0with\u00a0the\u00a0short length of the lessons, there is enough time to add something in\u00a0should you choose.\u00a0 The price is great too!\u00a0 Olim, Once upon a Time in Latin, Reader I<\/a> and\u00a0Workbook I<\/a>\u00a0are very affordable.\u00a0 The reader is $8.95 and the workbook is $17.95.<\/p>\n
