\"Orphs<\/a>Sweet Pea has been enjoying\u00a0Orphs of the Woodlands at Tangletree<\/a> by Star Toaster<\/a>.\u00a0 Orphs of the Woodlands at Tangletree is an app for an\u00a0iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch running iOS 8.4 or later.\u00a0 We used an iPad for the review.<\/p>\n

\"Orphs<\/a>Once the app was downloaded from the iTunes store the set up was a breeze and it didn’t take long to get it going.<\/p>\n

Orphs of the Woodlands at Tangletree is an interactive program.\u00a0 When you first open the app you will be brought to the map of the land.\u00a0 To enter Tangletree you must click on the Tangletree tree, which is on the left side.\u00a0 Your student is brought to the last spot in the book that they were at.\u00a0 From there they can either continue reading the book or go anywhere else\u00a0Tangletree.<\/p>\n

At the top of the screen\u00a0it will show who is\u00a0logged in, where you are at in Tangletree, and can click on the menu.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0At the bottom\u00a0you see the goal your student is working towards and how many stars\u00a0has been earned and needs to complete the next goal.\u00a0 In Orphs of the Woodlands at Tangletree,\u00a0Sweet Pea\u00a0is earning stars to buy things such as flour, water, clothes, dishes, etc for the orphans who live there.\u00a0 Below the goal there are buttons to go to the map, book, Stumptown, and the tree\u00a0to view\u00a0the orphanage\u00a0goals.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/a>
\nYou can add additional users or change users, view the student’s work and progress, view the Table of Contents, watch a getting started video, view the orphanage goals, and more in the menu.\u00a0 Adding a new user is very simple.\u00a0 You click on add, type their name, click continue and that’s it.\u00a0 When you need to switch to another child you go to the menu, click on add or change users, and select the child’s name.\u00a0 When you click on the back button their account with automatically load.\u00a0 I like their Table of Contents!\u00a0 If you have not completed all of the chapters you can easily tell which chapter you are working on.\u00a0 The completed chapters are lit up!\u00a0 When you view your student’s work it is broken down into the different subjects.\u00a0 It will tell you how many lessons and jobs that are available and when you expand the subject it will give you the information on how many lessons have been completed and how many jobs were completed correctly and incorrectly.\u00a0 The progress page is just a brief description of how many total lessons and jobs completed, gold stars earned, pages read, and goals achieved.<\/p>\n

\"Orphs4\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The story is 23 chapters and 122 pages long.\u00a0 Your student will do much more than practicing their\u00a0reading skills.\u00a0 They will work on math, science, grammar, vocabulary, thinking skills, character, life skills, and the arts while completing reading the story and completing the activities.\u00a0 Throughout the chapters there are links that link up to job training\u00a0and links that\u00a0expand definitions of vocabulary words.\u00a0 There is no sound in the app and children who are beginning readers may struggle with\u00a0any unknown words.<\/p>\n

When your student visits Stumptown, they will see eight buildings.\u00a0 The buildings are Beaver Builders, Brainstormers Inc, Cricket Cards, Woodland Watchers, Pinecone Publishers, Woodland Scurrier, Gopher Gifts and Supplies, and Critter Caf\u00e9.\u00a0 This is where your student goes to earn their gold stars to buy things for the orphans through the help wanted icons.\u00a0 Your student can also access the job trainings from here.\u00a0\u00a0The program does not require the student to complete job trainings before answering the questions in help wanted.\u00a0 However, I highly suggest\u00a0the student complete job training before answering the help wanted questions because they only get one chance of answering the questions to earn gold stars.\u00a0 If they answer the question incorrectly, it is marked wrong and the student cannot try again or\u00a0earn any gold stars.<\/p>\n

\"Orphs3\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Sweet Pea enjoyed playing Orphs of the Woodlands at Tangletree.\u00a0 As a parent, I enjoyed the set up.\u00a0Star Toaster made it very user friend for both the children and parents.\u00a0\u00a0With not needing sound for anything other than the\u00a0getting started video the\u00a0app could be played virtually anywhere.\u00a0 I look forward to seeing additional adventures that they come out with!<\/p>\n
