K5 Learning<\/a>\u00a0offers an online program<\/a>\u00a0to supplement math, reading, and spelling.\u00a0\u00a0We were blessed with a 6 month subscription for four of\u00a0our kids.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"K5<\/a><\/center> <\/p>\n

K5 Learning is a website\u00a0designed for both homeschoolers and public school students.\u00a0 They program is designed\u00a0to supplement children’s\u00a0work during the school year as well\u00a0as to help keep topics fresh\u00a0for those who take extended breaks.\u00a0 The topics covered in K5 Learning are: Math, Reading, and Spelling.<\/p>\n

K5 Math covers: Numbers and Operations, Measurement, Geometry, and Algebra.\u00a0 K5 Reading covers: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Sight Words, Vocabulary, and Reading Comprehension. K5 Spelling has a 100,000+ word database,\u00a0parents can create custom lists, and provides\u00a0immediate feedback.<\/p>\n

In K5 Learning children work at their skill level in math, reading, and spelling through interactive lessons.\u00a0 The lesson is broken down into short segments.\u00a0 For instance during a lesson on measuring weight in ounces and pounds they will watch a very short piece to learn which items are weighed in ounces and which ones are weighed in pounds.\u00a0 Then they move on to a series of questions (picture below) where they look at an item and then choose how they would weigh the said item.<\/p>\n

\"\"Once they have completed it, they will move on to the next segment of the lesson.<\/p>\n

K5 Learning also provides custom optional worksheets that correspond to\u00a0the current lessons the student is working on and change as the lessons do.\u00a0 When you print the custom worksheets, the answer sheets are printed right along with them.\u00a0 I like having the ability to print additional worksheets to further review the content.\u00a0 The downside is me\u00a0remembering to print them right away as they change frequently.<\/p>\n

Parents Dashboard<\/strong><\/p>\n

I love the way the parent dashboard is set up!\u00a0 There is a menu on the left hand side of the screen with: Students & Reports, Setup Assessments, Change Levels, Create Assignment, and Account Management.<\/p>\n

Students & Reports<\/strong><\/p>\n

When I first log into the account the\u00a0Students & Reports is automatically displayed.\u00a0 I can see\u00a0all of the\u00a0kid’s\u00a0user names, change\u00a0passwords, view reports, change spelling settings, and add spelling words.\u00a0 My favorite feature is that I can log them into their accounts from the parent dashboard.<\/p>\n

If the children are logged in through the parent dashboard, they can only access minimal information if they hit the back button.\u00a0 They can see the initial dashboard screen with the student’s names and user names but if they try to click on any of the links they\u00a0will get a “Sorry, students aren’t allowed there.” message.\u00a0 No need to worry about them making any changes!<\/p>\n

\"\"When I view reports (see picture above) I get a brief overview of how my children are doing.\u00a0 You can see how many lessons they have completed in a specific topic, how many were mastered, and the percent of the lessons that have been mastered.<\/p>\n

Viewing the progress reports will\u00a0give me a breakdown of everything that has been covered and viewing the\u00a0assessment reports\u00a0will let me view the results of the initial assessment.\u00a0 I can also add spelling words to my child’s spelling list.<\/p>\n

Adding spelling words to their list is breeze, you add them in and the program takes care of the rest!<\/p>\n

Assessments<\/strong><\/p>\n

K5 Learning recommends that each children do an assessment.\u00a0 The kids will start lessons from where they place in the assessment.\u00a0If you feel that the lessons are too easy or too hard you can contact K5 Learning through the Parent Portal and request a grade change.<\/p>\n

Create Assignments<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you want to assign specific lessons K5 Learning has the option for you to assign them to your child.\u00a0 When you are in the Lesson Library for your child, you select the grade level of the lessons you want, then click on math or reading, and it will pull up the list of lessons.\u00a0 Select the one(s) that you want and assign them to your child.\u00a0 Once they have been completed, remove them from their account.<\/p>\n

Account Management<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Account Management is the place where you change your password and update your information.<\/p>\n

Mom’s & Kid’s Thoughts<\/strong><\/p>\n

I had plans to have Sweet Pea, Peanut, Lil’ Bit, and Train Buff working through the\u00a0lessons.\u00a0 It was a good fit for the oldest three but I found that it was not a fit for Train Buff.\u00a0He just turned five recently and on the young end of the age range.\u00a0 That was the reason it wasn’t a fit for him and nothing with the program itself.<\/p>\n

Overall, Sweet Pea, Peanut, and Lil’ Bit all\u00a0enjoyed the program.\u00a0 They constantly asked me to log them into their accounts.\u00a0 Sometimes, they even fought over whose turn it was on the computer.<\/p>\n

One of Sweet Pea’s favorite subjects is\u00a0spelling.\u00a0 The way K5 Learning has it set up, she can do it independently.\u00a0 She likes being able to have a choice on the number of\u00a0words that she could\u00a0study.\u00a0 Once I did receive feedback from her regarding a reading lesson.\u00a0 She\u00a0came to me telling me that she already completed the lesson that she was working on.\u00a0 I encouraged her to finish the lesson even though she had already done it and to let me know if it happened again.\u00a0 I haven’t heard anything about repeating a lesson since.<\/p>\n

Peanut loves both math and reading on K5 Learning.\u00a0 She said she loved the animations and playing the games.\u00a0 Lil’ Bit\u00a0told me her favorite\u00a0part is Math and told me she liked math the most because she doesn’t like reading.\u00a0 She is more of a math girl.<\/p>\n
