Whistlefritz makes learning foreign languages through immersion fun for young kids! We had the opportunity to review the Educator’s Spanish Collection with Train Buff and Munchkin.
Whistlefritz is a language immersion program for children ages 1-7. Students are taught Spanish completely in Spanish through kid friendly lessons and activities.
Included in the Educator’s Spanish Collection is a Lesson Plan Book, 5 DVDs, 3 CDs, and a 50 card deck of Spanish Matching cards.
The Educator’s Spanish Collection has a total of 40 easy lessons that cover vocabulary and sayings. Lessons take approximately 30-40 minutes to complete.
Some of the things your children will learn: colors, animals, numbers, items in your house, & how to say hello, goodbye, and goodnight.
The Lesson Plan Book is set up in a teacher and parent friendly format. Lessons are scripted so even someone who is not familiar with the language can teach it.
For each lesson, there is a description of the lesson, the goals, the objectives, vocabulary, materials, and the time. Then there is an activities section with the focus of the activity, teacher input, guided practice, independent practice, and extension activities.
For the teacher, everything in the lesson plan book is written in English. Then everything spoken to the children is written in Spanish in parenthesis.
Example from Lesson 3:
“What do you notice on the presents?” (¿Qué observan sobre los regalos?) Numbers. (Números.) “How many presents does Fritzi have? Let’s count them.” (¿Cuántos regalos tiene Fritzi? Vamos a contarlos.)

If you have little or no knowledge of Spanish pronunciations I do recommend listening to the CDs and DVDs referred to in the lessons before teaching the lesson.
All master pages are included with the individual lesson and you have permission to make copies for your classroom.
The 5 DVDs and 3 CDs come in a 4 case set with a sleeve for storage. They are referenced to throughout the lessons and the lyrics are also included in the lessons. Both Spanish and English subtitles are available on the DVDs so you can learn right along with your children!
The included 50 card deck of Spanish Matching Cards. There are 25 pairs of cards with pictures of Fritzie doing different activities like brushing his hair, walking, washing his hands, reading, etc. There are four different colored backgrounds making it easier to pull out a small set of pairs without having to go searching through the entire deck for the matching cards.
I worked through a few of the lessons with Munchkin (3) and Train Buff (young 5). They are not used to structured lessons at their young age and they did alright. Both preferred the DVDs over the lessons and activities. I played the DVDs and CDs throughout the day for them. In one of the pictures below, Munchkin is pointing to the perro and saying, “Perro. Woof. Perro. Woof.”
The videos were a combination of an adult talking and children responding along with puppets and animations. It is presented in such a fun way that it kept the attention of both Train Buff and Munchkin and they learned a lot of Spanish vocabulary. Munchkin’s favorite DVD is ‘Los Animales’ and Train Buff’s favorite is ‘Vamos a Jugar’.
Whistlefritz also offers a Educator’s French Collection (which is also being reviewed by fellow Homeschool Review Crew).
