{Review} A Journey Through Learning Lapbooks ~ Astronomy (2nd Edition)

A Journey Through Learning

Lapbooks are hands-on interactive books, a scrapbook of the journey you have taken while learning a specific topic or topics. For this review my girls have reviewed the Apologia Exploring Creation with Astronomy (2nd Edition) Lapbook by A Journey Through Learning Lapbooks available on the Apologia Curriculum page.

There are various ways you can create a lapbook. They can be created using file folders that are glued or taped together. Another way you can create a lapbook is by using a notebook or making a book. My girls prefer to make their own lapbooks using color card stock and comb binding, which you will see in our photos.

However, if you have never made a lapbook with file folders have no fear! A Journey Through Learning provides step by step instructions on how to create a lapbook using file folders as well as instructions on creating a storage system for your lapbook(s).

The Apologia Exploring Creation with Astronomy (2nd Edition) Lapbook is designed for students in grades Second through Seventh. My girls, Sweet Pea, Peanut, and Lil’ Bit are in Fourth, Third, and Second. The activities in this lapbook correspond with Apologia’s Exploring Creation with Astronomy 2nd Textbook.

At the top of every lapbook activity page, there are a set of instructions. The instructions include how to cut out the interactive piece, what you need to read in the Apologia textbook to complete the activity, and a picture of the suggested placement of the piece.

Students will answer questions and draw pictures from what they are learning in the text.  The pieces are folded in various folds or connected with brads.  The pieces will be stored in pockets or glued directly to the lapbook itself. Once completed your student will have an interactive book that they can review at any time as well as share what they have learned with others.

Our thoughts!

Sweet Pea, Peanut, and Lil’ Bit enjoyed creating their lapbooks.  Like I mentioned above, they took color cardstock and bound them with a comb binding. We have been using the Apologia Exploring Creation with Astronomy (2nd Edition) text book throughout the past year. We used the Apologia Exploring Creation with Astronomy (2nd Edition) Lapbook to review what we have already learned.

I appreciate that the lapbook pieces can be added to the lesson without adding much time or can be used like we did to review what we have been learning.  Another bonus is that all of the materials besides the textbook are things that you can find at home such as scissors, file folders, brads, a stapler, and crayons.

We have used other A Journey Through Learning products during our homeschool journey and have enjoyed everything that we have used!  Please check out Apologia Exploring Creation with Astronomy (2nd Edition) Lapbook and A Journey Through Learning Lapbooks for some fun projects for your homeschool!
