HISTORY Through the Ages Project Passport World History Study: Ancient Greece by Home School in the Woods is a fun, hands-on unit study about Ancient Greece. The timing is perfect for my family to review this study, as Ancient Greece is an upcoming topic in our history curriculum! My family received the download version to review.
The suggested grades for HISTORY Through the Ages Project Passport World History Study: Ancient Greece is grades 3-8. However, this Project Passport works well with children in grades K-2. Train Buff, who is 4.5, wants ti participate right along with his older sisters (who are 8, 7, & 6).
HISTORY Through the Ages Project Passport World History Study: Ancient Greece is very well organized! I am very thankful for that because there are a lot of files! Everything is organized in master folders by images, lapbook pieces, MP3s, and PDFs, etc. There is a start here file that is an interactive page that includes links to all of the files that you need.
For every stop you will download the Guide Book Text, the Travel Itinerary. Along the left edge of the start page there are icons to let you know what kind of project you are working on (newspaper, game, Scrapbook of Sights, etc.). The Travel Itinerary includes every detail right down to the type paper that is suggested for every project. This is what I used for planning out our days.
Every page has a label and once printed you know where it belongs. The files names match so for example: TK-3-1 is the first Teacher’s Key for Stop #3. You can find the master copy in the Teacher’s Key folder under TK-3-1. Throughout the unit study, there are also pictures of samples that have been created!
Every lesson is called a Stop and there are a total of 25 stops. There is a detailed itinerary for every stop. This includes all of the supplies that you will need to have on hand. Every stop begins with reading the guidebook followed by activities relating to what you are learning. There are a ton of activities to choose from and you don’t have to do every single one.
Students will learn about Ancient Greece, the government, their customs, influence of Greek Poets, their education, and much more. Reading post cards from famous people, read a Greek newspaper, create a lapbook, keep a timeline, and playing games are just some of the fun activities that your student will be doing.
Here is an example of what we did on Stop 3 (The Archaic Period):
The girls learned about Greek Columns and added a column to their binder. They received a postcard from Cadmus. They added figures to their timeline, including The Olympic Games, Ionian Colonies are Settled, and Syracuse is Founded. They did map work. Everything is added their Scrapbook of Sights on this particular stop. When we are through with our study of Ancient Greece my children will have a beautiful keepsake to keep for years to come.
My girls really enjoy the Scrapbook of Sights and Lapbook as they are into creating scrapbooks and enjoy anything hands-on. In fact my girls want to complete everything, so we have been going at a slower pace so they can. We are currently on week 5. The beauty of unit studies is that you can adapt them to fit your family. As a mom, I appreciate the organization and ease of navigating the files. It has made planning what we are doing an ease! Everything is broken down into reasonable sized lessons. I also thought the post card rack to store the posts cards was cool!
Home School in the Woods offers two ways to purchase HISTORY Through the Ages Project Passport World History Study: Ancient Greece. The two options are CD or Download. I find the download version works best for my family. With five children, I can make as many copies as my family needs. There is a lot of printing, which I don’t mind as we have a laser printer. However, for some families printing may be an issue. Having the ability to purchase everything preprinted would be a wonderful option.
Home School in the Woods currently has four HISTORY Through the Ages Project Passport World History Study studies available. Besides Ancient Greece, studies are available for Ancient Egypt, The Middle Ages, and Renaissance & Reformation. Home School in the Woods is currently working on Ancient Rome, which will be available in 2018.
